Hanafi's great-grandfather was his father figure growing up, as well as his friend, mentor and hero. Before he passed away at age 79, he taught Hanafi about life. He'd say, "I'm not teaching you this for now; I'm teaching it for your future." He reminded Hanafi never to give up.

In 2005, when Hanafi was diagnosed with end stage renal disease and was told he would need a kidney transplant, it was his great-grandfather's words that helped him stay strong during the toughest times. Through more than two years of dialysis treatment, Hanafi remembered what his great-grandfather had said to him whenever he'd try to rush something: "It'll happen when it's supposed to happen."

Then on Sunday, October 18, 2007, Hanafi received a call from the hospital telling him they had a kidney for him. His whole family started jumping and screaming. Hanafi paused during the celebration, and quietly thought about the deceased donor whose kidney he'd be receiving. He also thought about his great-grandfather.

After a successful surgery and a post-kidney-transplant regimen including myfortic® (mycophenolic acid) delayed-release tablet, he is committed to staying healthy and still lives by his great-grandfather's words.
