Scott found out at age 30 that he was at a high risk for diabetes and kidney disease and that he would have to prepare for a kidney transplant within a couple years. He decided to focus on finding a live donor.

In 2004, during the difficult process of searching for a kidney transplant, Scott's wife made an important declaration: "We're done dealing with this. I'll be the donor and we'll just get this over with." Scott was stunned and speechless. The thought occurred to him that she might be acting out of frustration. But she told him she'd been thinking about being the donor for a while, and even had a dream in which she was told to do it.

Knowing her husband's health situation, Scott's wife had been working at a dialysis center. She understood his condition and the implications thoroughly. In November of 2004, the couple arrived early at the hospital for the procedure. After the surgery, Scott and his wife were overjoyed when the doctor told them everything went well, and that Scott's wife's kidney was functioning smoothly inside him. The doctor even said it was "a perfect match." Of course, Scott didn't need a doctor to tell him that his wife was a perfect match for him. Scott's doctor prescribed myfortic® (mycophenolic acid) delayed-release tablet as part of his post-transplant regimen.
