To get the most out of your transplant therapy, take an active role.
Communicating with your transplant team about your experience with your medicine is key. While medicine plays an extremely important role in keeping you healthier after your kidney transplant, some medicine may cause certain unpleasant side effects, such as heartburn, hair growth, hair loss, nausea and depression.
If you experience these or any other side effects with your medication, don't be afraid to bring it to the attention of your transplant team. Tell them everything about your symptoms in a clear and concise manner so that they can help you manage them. It may not be enough to say, "This medication upsets my stomach." You may have to provide details about the specific nature of your symptoms and how often they occur.
Be certain your doctor and transplant team are aware of any vaccinations you will be receiving to make sure there will be no complications
Tell your doctor if you develop lumps anywhere on your body, develop any moles or notice changes in existing moles. This may be an early sign of skin cancer. Kidney transplant medicine may increase the risk of developing certain cancers, including skin cancer and lymphoma (cancer of the lymphatic system).
